Bee’s Wrap

The trend Raw is the New Great is about destigmatizing and heading in the direction of finding a new function for waste materials. This also entails transforming those elements in a new sort of material. The intention of products such as furniture or tableware is no longer only about functionality or aesthetics, but also about the production process.

Bee’s Wrap was founded in 2012 by Sarah Kaeck in her own Vermont kitchen. Kaeck, a mother of two, was faced with the question: ‘’How could we eliminate plastics in our kitchen in favor of a healthier, more sustainable way to store our food?’’. By infusing organic cotton, sustainably harvested beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin, she came up with a reusable, washable and compostable alternative to plastic wraps used in order to wrap food. The resulting wraps provide a versatile, durable, plastic-free solution to sustainable food storage. The company offers different kinds: single wraps, bread wraps, and sandwich wraps. In the beginning, the wraps were painted with wax by hand onto fabric in the basement of Sarah’s home. Since then, Bee’s Wrap has developed custom machinery that allows them to wax whole rolls of fabric at a time.

This particular product fits the trend Raw is the new Great because the wraps are made from a type of material, beeswax and tree resin, that is not very appealing when it comes to producing dining related products. By using it in this way they destigmatize the products by using it in the kitchen.
